you go to see an organ played at 2pm in a small town on a lousy hot summer day, of course. and it can only conceivably be operated by one man, and it’s a good thing that man is quite large and long because it’s troubling to the mind to attempt a rational model wherein a smaller less limb-inclined person could possibly complete the musical feat that sometimes is this ferris track organ.
then of course you look around a bit to recognize that the small town you’re in, with the focal point being an outside amphitheater and organ, must have some methodist camp roots. and so it was. round lake was inspired by the Chautauqua movement which originated in the area you now live in, perfect. and right below Chautauqua, on the craggy side of western New York, is a scale model of the Holy Land called Palestine Park where 19th pilgrimage hopefuls played out their expectations of what it would be like to embark on that rite of passage so close to their faith but so far from their feet.
